Sarah Havens is a local milliner and designer who’s interest in millinery design began with a fascination of the Dr. Suess’s “Cat in The Hat” hat. Sarah’s early curiosity of headwear has bloomed into a full-time passion and occupation. Her BFA in theatre arts and clothing construction lead her to a study at UT to study costume design. Classes included costume construction and millinery studies. She then went on to hone her millinery skills through working at professional theatre companies. One of her memorable internships was working at the Santa Fe Opera, under Sharon King, who was one of the milliners for the movie Titanic. Sarah has made hats for the MET as well as other notable Operas and theaters. She worked with several notable costume designers including Tony Award winning, Catherine Zuber. Opportunities with well known designers have led her hats to be seen locally on stage as well as internationally. With over twenty years of experience in various locations and venues, Sarah returned to Louisville in 2011 as a shop owner in The Hope Mills Building in Germantown. She now makes hats for not only theatre but fashion as well. Her hats have been seen on the Italian designer, Salvatore Ferragamo and the golfer Jason Rose. She also made a special video appearance for the famous Eh Bee Family travels. Her well rounded experience in millinery has lead her to specialize in custom designs for men and women for fashion and theatre. She is known to bring quality and style to her creations that will compliment any fashion ensemble and personality.
